Battle for the Wharf |

Organiser: Arvin Delafonain, an ex-Cygnaran general.
Description: General Delafonain has a penchant for war games. He always thought that the best minds were military ones. After a life of success on and off the battlefield he found himself with far too much time on his hands. Thus after spending a considerable amount of money buying up unused warehouses along the waterfront he converted his little slice of land into a battle field.
The event has taken place the six days before Founding Day every year for the last five years, with rather few fatalities but always many injuries. The event is for teams of 5 or less, with each day testing their ability to work as a team and alone. The Teams are set to wage a small scale war over the waterfront battlefield.
The battlefield is large enough to handle 4 teams at once, and is comprised mainly of rubble and the husks of warehouses that have long since seen better days. At the very centre of the field is a small building which houses the Flag, which is the object of the main event. Capture the flag and return to your starting point.
Outside this, anything goes; spells, guns, swords and knives. All weapons are supplied by The General and have blunted edges or fire special charges that do minimal damage (subdual only). All spellcasters in the event are required to wear special medallions that siphon off a portion of their spell energy to keep fatalities at a minimum (spells do the minimum amount of normal damage).
For those not in the event proper there are sharp shooting contests, and mage duels along the waterfront as well as a proper melee here and there.
Agenda: The first day is registration. Fees for the main event are 500 crowns, while all side events are 100 crowns. Teams are allowed this day to look over the battlefield and are assigned the day they will be competing.
Each event is an elimination match, and only the winning team of each heat goes on to the next level. There are four qualifiers each day, each qualifier lasts a maximum of 4 hours, starting at midnight of the second day with one hour between heats. The four qualifiers of the day return for semi-final an hour after the final qualifier of the day. The winner of this event goes onto the finals on the sixth day.
The sixth day is an all day event, the four semi-finalists from the last day compete to not just capture the flag, but hold the building in the centre of the battlefield the longest throughout the day. Throughout all the events, judges are placed at different locations in the field to make sure no one is cheating.
Grand Prize is five thousand crowns for the winning team, and a selection of a magical/mechanikal item of the General's own possession.
Side events, which can be signed up for during the day of the event, include Sharp shooting with rifles and pistols, Trick Shooting, Stage magic, and a Grande Melee at the end of the day. Winners receive three quarters of the pot of those who enter, while second place gets the last quarter.
Social Crowd: Peasants and military types mostly. Nobles sometimes, but they rarely attend. There are usually Army recruiters in the crowd, talking with qualifiers about joining up with mercenary companies or the Cygnaran army proper.
