The Iron Fist of the 3rd Pier

What's going on?

For the past 5 years The Iron Fist of the 3rd Pier has grown to become a main event in the harbour district on Founding Day. Since the legendary Cassius Clee fought off a whole gang that crashed a private party, the boxing has returned every year. (Be it in a more regulated manner).

There are several "houses" that participate in the competition. These houses can be anything varying from a team of dockworkers, a group of adventurers or a boxing team sponsored by a nobleman. A lot of gambling, drinking and cheering goes on at Warehouse 3 on Founding day.

Imagine a number of fighting rings, lots of tables, an improvised bar and a noblemen only area. Mix it in with lots of booze, shouting, sweat and gambling.

Who is doing it?

Cassius Clee and the dockworkers guild.

The notorious ex-boxing champion Cassius makes this annual boxing competition a must for the insiders. He gathers funds from noblemen that can't resist the gambling opportunities. Another name that pops up from time to time is Timotheus King (yup, the one from the Quad) .

Agenda

Each "house" enlists 1 fighter and during the whole day a tournament is held in the main warehouse on Pier 3.

The first part of the day is called the try-outs and will continue until only 4 teams are left. The first round pits the Iron 8 against each other. The second round only has 4 fighters left. The Final round will see this years' Iron Fist of the 3rd Pier left standing.
The try-out matches consist of single rounds of 5 minute boxing. The winner goes through to the next level. Winners are declared by a jury but more often then not the result is pretty obvious after 5 minutes.

As the day grows older, more and more people pour in as the fights are getting more and more interesting. There are lots of betting possibilities by the time they get to the Iron 8. The Iron 8 are the four winning teams from last year (they don't have to fight to get in the 8,) and the four teams that made it through the try-outs.

So now we are stuck with 8 contestants fighting three 3-minute-round boxing matches in order to get to the next round.
The four winners of the first round are automatically placed for next years Iron 8. During the pause between the rounds the "houses" work hard to get their fighter back in the best condition.

The second round brings the contestants down to 2.

The final round often lasts more then 3 rounds (often until only one fighter is left standing). He is declared the Iron Fist of Pier 3 and will receive a large money prize along with a solid reputation. The drinking lasts long after the Iron Fist has been crowned and also has a lot of people getting knocked out (most from too much drinking).

The next day is generally known as Boxing Day and has try-outs for young fighters to find a house to sponsor them next year.

The Crowd

Although a lot of noblemen come to place a bet, the majority of the attendants aren't what you would call "high rollers". Dockworkers, lowlifes, money sharks, street fighters and "working girls" make up the crowd at the Iron Fist.
