The Player Characters, while on a
long, overland journey, come across a small, beckoning
roadhouse. Run by an aging Midlunder named Milo Montfort,
the roadhouse has rooms for sale, stabling for horses,
supplies (such as rations, winter blankets and other
miscellaneous equipment) and meals. It seems that
the player characters are in for a comfortable stay,
that is until...
- The Player Characters hear a commotion
coming from outside, nearby the stables. Lying on
the ground is the mangled body of the stable boy.
His attacker, a seven foot tall, wolf-headed monster
runs off with unnatural speed into the night. The
creature is a Warp Wolf, and it returns every hour
to kill another of the road houses' occupants. The
Player Characters have to either find a way to escape
(the horses have already been killed), or organize
some kind of defence against the cunning predator.
- Milo reveals himself to be a Cleric
of Thamar, poisoning his patron's drinks to knock
them out. The Player Characters awaken within a
cold, dank cell somewhere underneath the roadhouse,
awaiting to be used in a dark ritual that will give
Milo newfound youth and vigour. Fortunately for
the PCs, Montfort's newest Ward, the stable boy
Godwin, is having second thoughts about the ceremony,
and decides to break out the Player Characters.
- A small group of soldiers enter
the roadhouse, declaring that they are searching
for the thief of a priceless gemstone, stolen from
a noble of a nearby city. The soldiers have tracked
the thief to this roadhouse, and insist that none
of the occupants leave until they have searched
all of their belongings. Hearing this, the real
thief, a gobber named Golalokarakanuladar, hides
the gemstone in one of the Player Character's room.
The Player Characters are going to have some explaining
to do unless they want to complete the rest of their
journey clasped in irons.
