Big Squid

A local alchemist has recently made a decent living selling obscene quantities of Balelight at a slight discount. Unfortunately he completely finished his stockpiles and is now desperate to get more.

Pitch

A local alchemist has recently made a decent living selling obscene quantities of Balelight (see IKCG p307) at a slight discount. Unfortunately he completely finished his stockpiles and is now desperate to get more.

The party has been contacted with the promise of a hefty payment if they can retrieve the glands of enough Swamp Squid (see WTCE p286 or TLN p58) from the surrounding marshes to keep up his production.

It's just Swamp Squid. What could go wrong?

Alternatives

  • Nobody thought to inform the party that said hunting ground was bang smack on one of the Iron Kingdom's many military borders on high alert. Between dodging patrols, and running like heck, the players should have their work cut out for them.

Who knew there was a war on?
  • The swamp is drying up thanks to the hot season. This has made food scarce and has caused much of the local wildlife to become a lot more agitated and vicious (Bloodthirsty Quickplate MN1 p212). Given the circumstances, the squid probably won't pass up on the chance for a quick snack.
  • The local "Swampies" who live in the area aren't particularly happy about trespassers in their territory. Things get ugly fast when they chance upon the PC's hunting so close to their homes.
