All across the city, ancient artefacts are being reported missing in a series of unexplainable thefts. When the local charter house of the Strangelight Workshop is burgled by what appears to be real ghosts, the Player Characters are pulled in by an old friend in the Workshop to investigate the thefts.
However, when the local Strangelight contact goes missing...
- The thefts were indeed performed by spirits, controlled by a former Strangelight researcher who has come to believe that he can control the paranormal forces around him. Over the years, he has found that by combining ancient Orgoth lore with modern mechanika, he can now actually summon and bind spirits to his will.
The final ingredient necessary to complete his total dominance over the captured spirits is the sacrifice of a "true believer" in a brutal Orgoth ritual, hence the kidnapping of the Strangelight Investigator, his former research assistant.
- The thefts and kidnapping are actually the work of talented Second Story Men in the local thieves guild, who have found several buyers with eclectic tastes. When one of the buyers turns out to be an unscrupulous rich nobleman in a position of power, the Player Characters find themselves in hot soup when both public influence and underworld connections are used against them.
- The strange truth is that the items belonged at one point or another to a former Hollowed (See Monstronomicon), a Paranormal Researcher murdered by the underground Despoiler Cult. Having regained some sense, the evil creature is now gathering its former possessions together for some reason.
The clues left behind will shed some light on his murder and the activities of the Despoiler Cult who are becoming increasingly active in selecting new victims. If the PCs hurry, they might actually be able to rescue the Investigator before yet another Hollowed roams the streets.
