Stoyan Orlov is a Khadoran exile living in Cygnar. He has worked as a Cygnaran excise man for twenty years, but a visiting dignitary objected to a foreigner working for Cygnar and he was fired. Stoyan had dedicated his life to the job and all he was left with were some savings. He had no family or friends.
Stoyan then decided to end his life, but he lacked the courage to do so. Instead he hired a local criminal group to do the job for him. They quite happily agreed. That night he visited his favourite tavern for a farewell drink. Here he fell in love with Marta Gubin, a retired fighter struggling as a barmaid.
Stoyan tried to cancel the contract but his contact had moved on... The PCs get hired by a member of the criminal group to do the job for them (it's cheaper than hiring an assassin). He can persuade them by telling them, they would be doing Stoyan a favour.
- The PCs reject the offer. The bandit tells them someone else will do it then and he'll get paid anyway. The PCs can still take the job or go and save Stoyan.
- The PCs take the offer. They get paid. They go to the bar and will wait for him to come out. He comes out of the bar pretty late, but he is with Marta. When the PCs act, Stoyan begs for his life and tells the PCs he has changed his mind. The characters can still kill him (Marta the ex-fighter will be very mad) or leave him be (the criminal group will then hire an assassin to do the job and want the already paid money back from the PCs).
- When the PCs go save Stoyan, they will encounter an assassin. They can try to kill him or try to reason with him, for in the face of death he may gain some humanity. After this they may or may not encounter the criminal group (for their betrayal).
