A local workshop (anything that fits your campaign and can possibly use jacks will do) employs steamjacks for heavy manual labour. Most of these jacks are thrown together from various scavenged parts and as a result the workshop has several bodgers in service to ensure a smooth running operation.
While the players are minding their own business suddenly all hell breaks loose as one of the jacks goes wild and rampages through the town/city. The local militia/guard/army is unable to stop the jack and is quickly overcome by it.
Not only does the jack have to be stopped but more importantly, the PCs must find the reason the jack went mad. After all there are several other (and bigger) jacks employed at the workshop and the town can't risk them going nuts too.
- The workshop is infested by Gremlins. They damaged the jack's cortex and made it go nuts. Upon investigation there are several other jacks infected.
- One of the scavenged parts was a warjack grade cortex. Somehow it classified the town as hostile and reverted back to its intended behaviour, attempting to destroy the enemy.
- One of the jack's handlers is responsible. He's fed up with his job, his boss and the entire town. One day he just snaps and orders the jack to destroy everything. The players better hurry as he's planning on activating the rest of the jacks and have them help out.
