A foresting enterprise got their hands on a labour steamjack, and not only did it reduce the costs and increase the output of the operation, it was also the envy of several other competing foresting businesses.
A few days ago, Choppy the steamjack went missing. Naturally the camp is in uproar and all but ready to investigate the other companies in the area. The problem is that said 'investigation' involves axes and torches.
To avoid any bloodshed, the PCs are asked to investigate where the jack went, and be quick about it, after all who could misplace a 10 ton walking chainsaw?
- A competitor did in fact steal Choppy and has him locked away a days travel from both foresting operations. Choppy has no idea what's going on, he's a little sad he doesn't get to chop trees in the rocky area he is in now.
- In an angry moment Choppy's "master for the day" told him to "get lost" and that's exactly what Choppy did. Currently he's wandering the woods and has no idea how to get back. From time to time he cuts down a few trees. After all, that's what he's supposed to do (and might just draw the PCs to his location).
- Choppy was indeed stolen, but not by competitors. One of the lumberjacks (the people, not steamjacks) laid off due to Choppy's arrival swore revenge and plans to dismantle Choppy and sell the parts to get it.
