A minor border conflict has flared up, and the front is being pushed closer and closer to the PCs current base of operations.
- Drafted! The players are conscripted. They may not be put in the front line, but they are in danger, under-paid and over-worked. Desertion, perhaps?
- The players are sought out by military intelligence for a covert mission behind enemy lines. They're "deniable" in case of capture - hence their use. On the one hand, they're going to have to cross enemy lines; on the other, they are being provided with military grade equipment...
- Food prices soar as the front marches closer. Grain convoys are being attacked by bandits. Should they go for the bandits? Or should the players claim that grain silo that lies just on the other side of the lines? At this time, the grain is worth its weight in silver...
