Adam Guarding, a wealthy and Respected Member of Wizard Society, contacts the characters, and asks for their assistance.
About a week ago, Adam's only son Ryon disappeared. At first, Adam thought he might have been kidnapped and was now held for ransom, but soon it appeared his son had voluntarily joined the Cygnaran army to serve as a lowly trencher.
To make matters worse, the newly formed regiment was sent off to take part in an offensive to gain control of some of the Scharde Islands. Due to his father's influence and power, Ryon has always led a protected and luxurious life. Indeed, fighting the forces of Cryx might not be his best choice of a career after all. If the characters can find Ryon and manage to return him home, there will be a more than healthy reward waiting for them...
- What's love got to do with it...
Ryon fell in love with a girl, but was rejected because he was too young, 'barely growing a beard'. Now the young trencher wants to prove his manhood by going off to fight the evil and despicable forces of the Cryx. He will not return home until he's proven to be a Real, Brave Hero.
- Some books are better than others...
And Ryon found a rather bad one in his father's library. The tome was hidden in a secret place accidentally discovered, and proved more than a bit dangerous. When Ryon opened the book, he was attacked by a powerful spell/spirit, and unable to oppose the attack. Then and there the young man stopped being Ryon and became The Other. The Other needs to go to a location on the Scharde Islands, and found out a military invasion was planned. So the easiest way to find a ride was to have its vessel join the attackers... Soon, It was on Its way towards its goal...
- I put a spell on you...
Ryon was not so much a son as an apt pupil. But when he found out his father and mentor was dabbling in darker arts than the eye should meet, he got confused and deadly frightened, and ran off to the most unlikely place he could think off, just to get away from the person he once trusted. So the small and skinny soon-to-be-wizard joined the trenchers, as was found out by his father. Until now, it seems Ryon hasn't told anyone of what he's seen and found - but this might change - so he needs to be discovered and, sadly enough, eliminated. One of the player characters will be put under a spell that will make him (try to) kill Ryon once they'll manage to find him.
