Enter the "Five Fingers
Contest" and you can win a hard-bound book
of your choice from Privateer Press AND
win a signed copy of the upcoming Monsternomicon
vol. II.
Although the "Bass" is located in Corvis, lots of tales and rumours about the going-ons in Five Fingers are told during long nights while the patrons warm their bones with pint and pipe.
To enter you must simply submit an entry detailing a person or place of your design situated in the city of Five Fingers.
For examples or inspiration, take a look at the articles on:
-
The Laden Galleon (No Quarter 7),
-
Low Captain Garrick Hern (No Quarter 9),
-
or the secret Cyriss Temple from this issue for examples of how to compose an entry.
You'll find the full contest details below.
The Five Fingers Contest
starts at January 3, 2006 and will continue until
February 15, 2006. Entries can be sent until the
hour of midnight of the 15th of February. Entries
that are sent later may or may not end up in the
collection, but will NOT have arrived
in time to be looked at by our most excellent team
of judges. So too late is too late.
Entries will be judged
by the staff of "No Quarter Magazine"
based on its merits, including:
-
Originality: entries should describe entirely new locations or characters not described in the Five Fingers book. For example: a new gambling hall, a ship and its captain, or an entirely new gang with something worth reading about them.
-
Flavor: entries should exude the salty (or is that rancid?) flavor of the roguish villa.
-
Accuracy: entries should accurately reflect the continuity of the Iron Kingdoms and Five Fingers. Maybe people ride flying horses in your campaign but that's no reason to inflict your My Pretty Pony™ fetish on the rest of us.
All qualifying entries will be published as a collection at your friendly local pub in Corvis; this very Buccaneer Bass website.
So stop sitting there and staring at your screen, grab your virtual quills and get writing.
Please make sure everything you send us is created by yourself. We advise you to read any Privateer Press publication for the legal info (in the front of their books) and especially for a warning what they'll do to you in case of copyright infringements. Hey, they're pirates you know.
You'll notice we'll offer you a lot of freedom here. What we're looking for is an exciting and enjoyable tale about a person or a place in Five Fingers.
Just repeating ourselves here, but taking a look at the following articles in NQ magazine might give you a feel of what we're talking about: "The Laden Galleon" in NQ7, "Low Captain Garrick Hern" in NQ9, or "The secret Cyriss Temple" in NQ10.
So, decide whether you'll send us a person (or a group of persons) or a place, and read on.
Send us the detailed information on the person(s) roaming the city of Five Fingers that you've come up with. Please include the following information:
-
Name
-
Description
-
Background story
-
Game mechanics (when detailing groups, please look into the "Gang Rules" as detailed in the "Five Fingers" book)
-
Perhaps some cool extra's (like portraits, illustrations, etc… to go with your entry.)
Please send this as a simple text file to Buccaneer Koen. We prefer "MS Word" documents, but a text file should also work. There's no need to occupy yourself with layout work and stuff, as we'll alter it anyway.
In short: a simple text file with the appropriate info is what we need. Illustrations may be included if you'd like (we might even use it!). And of course: make sure everything you send us is created by yourself.
